The town of Garzon was founded in
1892 by Mr. Fermin de Leon. It used to be a stop for travelers going towards Rocha over the stream of Garzon where the governor Vicente Garzon had a salt-cured meat ranch. Until 1940 the town had a wheat mill and 2000 inhabitants. Actually the people from the town work in farms that mill Eucalyptus trees and, as well as Granite mines (grey rock) that you see very often used for the construction of houses in the region. The park of the small town has a beautiful symmetric design with old palm trees and benches, overlooking the social club and the church. |
A short distance from the town the mountain ranges can be admired,
which contrary to the Uruguayan coast that has been covered with forests,
has the authenticity of the flora and fauna of the zone.
