The town of Garzon was founded in 1892 by Mr. Fermin de Leon.

It used to be a stop for travelers going towards Rocha over the stream of Garzon where the governor Vicente Garzon had a salt-cured meat ranch.

Until 1940 the town had a wheat mill and 2000 inhabitants.
Actually the people from the town work in farms that mill Eucalyptus trees and, as well as Granite mines (grey rock) that you see very often used for the construction of houses in the region.

The park of the small town has a beautiful symmetric design with old palm trees and benches, overlooking the social club and the church.

A short distance from the town the mountain ranges can be admired, which contrary to the Uruguayan coast that has been covered with forests, has the authenticity of the flora and fauna of the zone.

The chain of mountain ranges that are behind the town and that give birth to the creek of Jose Ignacio and its affluents, is a sample of the local geography, small streams and waterfalls surround the closed mounts of “Coronillas”, where it is the Wild boar, the “Carpincho”, the “Ñandu”, the “Mulita” and the “Tatu” among others that can be found. Some of the birds that can be appreciated, are the “Churrinche”, the “viudita”, the Owl and the “Picapalos”.

The trees that can be found are the “Aruera”, the “Espiñillo”, and the “Blanquilla” without forgetting the thistles blossom in summer.
